Brief biography
Date of birth - March 22, 1972; place of birth - the village of Belocorovichi; Zhitomir region.
In 1975 moved with the parents to Smolensk city where took up sambo and judo in "Urozhai" sports
club under the guidance of the coach Ivan Andrusov (Merited coach of Russia at present). Then moved
to Moscow in 1984 where he went on with his judo training in the Central Sports Army Club.
In September 1985 was admitted to the specialized class of "Sambo - 70" school of Olympic
reserve (at present "Education Centre Sambo - 70") where was coached by Oleg Komarov
(Merited coach of Russia now). In 1987 was the winner of Russian Schoolchildren Spartakiade
(the city of Novokuznetzk) and then won silver prize at the USSR Schoolchildren Spartakiade (Tbilisi).
Performed the ratings "Candidate to USSR Master of Sports". At the All Union Youth
Games in 1988 (Kstovo) became the silver prize winner. Performed the ratings "USSR Master of
Sports". In 1989 was the winner of the USSR Youth Championship (Cheboksari). Finished school
that year and entered Military Engineering Academy named after F.Dzerzhinsky at the faculty of
Automatic Systems of Aircrafts Control. Because of that couldn't participate in the World Youth
Championships in Newark, USA.
In 1990 won 2 silver medals: at the USSR Youth Championship
(Frunze, now Bishkek) and the World Youth Championship in Moscow.
In 1991 was the runner-up at the USSR Youth Championship (Kishinev, Moldavia) and won the
World Youth Championship in Montreal, Canada. The same year, at the age of 19, won the World
Senior Championship. Performed the ratings for the title "USSR Master of Sports of International
class". In 1992 won the Russian Youth Championship (Maikop) and European Youth Championship in
Great Britain.
The Cup of Russia was won in 1993 (Vladimir) and next year, 1994, Igor won the World Cup,
both in individual and team scoring as a member of the Russian national team in Yugoslavia and World
Students Championship. Was in the list of 10 best athletes of the year. Was awarded with the highest
sports title "Merited Master of Sports of Russia". Well-known journal "Superman" named Igor "Mister
Sambo-94". In 1995 graduated from the Academy in the speciality "engineer". His diploma work was
positively marked by the Academy Scientific Board. Continued his service in the military-cosmic
(space) force of Russia.
Was repeatedly awarded by the Defence Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the force and director of
the Academy for excellent service and top sports achievements.
Won the Cup of Russia and World Cup in Sambo in 1996. Got next higher rank - captain.
Was at the head of the project to create electronic encyclopaedia
"National Cosmonautics", multi-media publications "Sambo for Professionals",
programs of the evaluation of the athletes physical training level -"Athletics".
In 1997 won the World Tournament of Sambo Masters in St. Jan de Luz, France.
From the year of 1997 is being trained by the Merited coach of Russia, Candidate of Science, Ped.,
Renat Laishev. In 1998 became the first ever champion of Russia in Sumo. As a member of the Russian
national team participated in Sumo World Championship in Tokyo, Japan and European Championship in
Sumo (Riesa, Germany). Was one of the developers of this sport in Russia. Vice-president of the
Moscow Sumo federation.
In 1999 he began the construction of sambo, judo and other combat sports school in Moscow in the
district Novo-Peredelkino. On March 2000 the school was named "Boretz" ("Fighter") and was
registered by the Moscow registration chamber. This day is considered to be the birth of the school.
In December of 2000 the construction of a new sports complex was completed that made it possible
to increase considerably the contingent of the athletes and to become one of the largest in Moscow
schools of fighting arts. Founder of "Kurinnoy Cup" tournament. In 2001 won the National Sambo Championship (St.Petersburg), the Cup of Russia
(Serpukhov), the World Cup, both
individual and team, (Subbotitza, Yugoslavia) and the Worlds in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.
In 2002 became gold medalist of National Championship, Europe Champion, bronze medalist of the World Championship and fulfilled the ratings of International class Master of Sports in Sumo.
In addition to the gold medal and the Europe Champion's title in the weight category up to 85 kg IGOR KURINNOY was awarded with the title of the best athlete at the 2002 European Sumo Championships.
In this year confident victory at the Sambo Team World Cup in the National line up in the city of Oral ( Kazakhstan ) also.
In 2003 by the decision of the Higher attestation - qualification committee of the Russian Federation Igor Kurinnoy was conferred the degree of Candidate of Science, Ped (Doctor of Philosophy in World Information Distributed University). His scientific work "Application of Modern Information Technologies to Increase the Effectiveness of Fighters Training" was highly estimated by specialists. Was elected Professor of the Academy of Security Problems, Defence and Law and Order.
In 2003 and 2004 won gold European Sumo Championships (was helded in Germany and Hungary) and bronze medal of the World Sumo Championship, confirming his leadership in the rating of the best sumotori light-weights of the Old World.
On March 2004 was elected to the Municipal administration of "Novo - Peredelkino" Moscow region.
On April 2004, Igor Kurinnoy was elected a member of the Russian Sumo Federation Presidium.
For highest class sportsmen preparation was named "Merited coach" of Russia. On June 2006, Igor Kurinnoy was admited to the ranks, privileges and titles of Honoured Academician and Honorary Distinguished Professor of the Australian-Asian Institute of Civil Leadership. On Desember 15, 2006 became prizewinner of all-Russian contest of the young scientists.
By President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin Decree from September 21,2003 Igor Kurinnoy was decorated with the Order "For the Services to the Country, Second Class", the "Peter the Great" Order, Second Class. Was named the Laureate of Mikhail Lomonosov Premium in the field of science and education. For the cosmonautics ideas popularization was awarded by medal of the Russian National Cosmonautics Agency. On November 29, 2006 was decorated with the medals "For the Services to the Country”, for the world sumo championship team victory in Japan.
On 5 december 2009, Igor Kurinnoy was admited to the ranks, privileges and titles of Professor of the Militaty science.
At present - director of the sports school "Boretz". Honorary citizen of the Moscow "Park of Stars".
