On September 1, 2010. The new book by Igor Kurinnoy “The Games Pleasing to God” was published. The book is devoted to the issue of the origin, history and the role in society of the famous Olympic Games that is the pressing problem of today. During the recent years universal attention was compelled to them and in our country this interest is stirred up by the fact that 2014 Winter Olympic Games will be held in Russia in the city of Sochi. It seems everything is known of the Olympic Games. Many books have been written including historic ones. However, as Igor Kurinnoy has found out there is a great gap in our knowledge of the Games. At that, not only in the field of the "ancient” history of their origin but also what concerns XIX-XX centuries and modern times. The author presents for research unique archival documents that permits to understand that during many years the society was inserted a greatly distorted version of the history concerning the establishment and development of the Olympic Games.
2010, July 22 – August 1 in the United States of America in Sea-Town Sambo Club-Seattle, Washington University of Northern Iowa Wrestling Team-Cedar Falls, Iowa Hawkeye Jui-jitsu Club-Iowa City, Iowa Dynamo Combat Club-Bettendorf, Iowa series of international seminars was held by Igor Kurinnoy. It was good opportunity for many sambo and judo players from Iowa, Illinois, Florida, California, Oregon, Washington State, Missouri, Nebraska to learn throws, grappling techniques, submission with focus on leg locks, theory of training and conditioning presented at the “Sambo for Professionals” directly from the source. This vent became possible owing to official SFP representative Gregg Humphreys efforts (travel and event organizer).
On June 11, 2010. At the Children-Youth Sports school “Borec” the clinics for methodologists of the Moscow Sports schools was held under Igor Kurinnoy guidance. The clinics lasted for seven hours and in its course quite a number of problems concerning the increase of training effectiveness and development of Sports schools organization structure was analyzed and revealed. In participants opinion the clinics was useful from both practical and informative point of view.

On May 1-2, 2010. European Junior championship in Sumo held in Kiev, Russia, brought to the Moscow picked team 9 gold medals out of 12 won by the whole Russian National team. On April 24-25, 2010. In Sevastopol city within the frames of the cultural exchange between the Moscow Government, Sevastopol City hall and the Black Sea Fleet Igor Kurinnoy held Master class for the young Sambo fighters of the Crimea. The Moscow delegation has visited many holy places cherished in the history of Russia, the warship of the Black Sea Fleet, the Moscow House in Sevastopol. On 2-4 April 2010. On country base of Moscow Sumo Federation “Konakovo” final three-day camp for preparation of Moscow team for coming championship of Russia has come to the end. We remind that the first stage of selection on Europe championship will take place on April, 9-11th in the city of Dzerzhinsk of the Nizhniy Novgorod region.
On March 20, 2010 the VIII traditional Sambo Junior tournament “Kurinnoy Cup” was held in “Krylatskoye” excellent sports hall. As usually, all the bouts went in a sharp, and what is most important - in almost equal fight. The outcome of the meet literary depended on every wrestler and could be determined in every bout having become the result of some false step or wrong move. In the final bout team “Borec” won “Sambo-70” team and first time was became champion of “Kurinnoy Cup”. On Sunday, June 21, 2009, in the very heart of Russia on the Red Square Igor Kurinnoy held Master-class and demonstrative work-out in Sambo. The main idea of such a performance was to revive the interest for sports and physical training among the Moscow youth and further promotion of Sports Sambo in the capital. Igor and his trainees demonstrated the elements of the warm-up, acrobatic and athletic preparation and of course many-sided techniques of throws and ground fight. Moscow officials, representatives of the capital sports organizations and numerous spectators watched the show with sincere interest. We are sure that this day will become one more building block in the cause of Russians’ health improvement and revival of glorious traditions of National physical education.

The group of “Borec” sports school pupils headed by Igor Kurinnoy visited the cosmic port “Plesetzk” on the personal invitation by Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Cosmic Forces lieutenant-general Oleg Ostapenko. Young athletes were shown the process of preparation for the cosmic rocket launch, everyday life and working days of cosmic port workers and the Museum of Cosmic Forces. On November 6, 2008 at Igor Kurinnoy school in the West Moscow District held the central event of the National Sambo Day. Several hundred kids and honorable guests could watch the real theatrical sports show. All spectators felt the beauty and power of our National sport, learned the history of its origin and witnessed the historic meet of sports school “Borec” team and the picked team of the capital Western District. Congratulations to Sambo fighters all over the world with Sambo jubilee!!! 70 years ago, on November 16, 1938 the Decree of the Physical Education and Sports Committee was issued which recognized Sambo as the sport that is especially valuable and useful for the physical development of the USSR citizens. We began to count off the history of Sambo as a sports event right from that time. Within the bounds of the Jubilee Sambo celebrations have begun all over our country and abroad. One of the best was the tournament “The Golden Throw” that was held on the Red Square with the leading Sambo fighters of the world participation. The stands were overfilled with spectators. By this event the film “Sambo Biography” came out where Igor Kurinnoy was one of the personages. The projection of the film was first shown to all the people who gathered on the Red Square on that day and will be soon presented on the country TV screens. Please, do not miss it. On September 28, 2008. On the grandiose opening ceremony of the new Moscow Martial Arts Center, was the part of Sambo demonstration. The very spectacular program, that caused a stormy reaction of spectators, was prepared by Igor Kurinnoy and his trainee master of sport Alexander Sehin. We do hope that this work will contribute to the Sambo further development in the Moscow.

At the International Sumo Tournament “Swiss Open -2008” that was held in the sports world capital Lausanne late August, Igor Kurinnoy won the gold medal in the Open category, defeated opponents from 7 European countries and was handed by the mayor of the city the special prize “ To the best athlete of the Tournament”. In addition, the Moscow team headed by Igor Kurinnoy won the team competitions having defeated the formidable Hungarian team (198, 145 and 125kg heavyweights in their line-up) after its stubborn resistance when reaching the finals, and in the finals gained the victory over the main team of the hosts “Switzerland – 1”. It is remarkable that in the Open category finals Igor competed with his personal trainee Pavel Babyuk who could not manage to defeat the master for the present and took the second step of the pedestal. On August 4, 2008, at Presidium of the Moscow Sambo Federation Igor Kurinnoy was unanimously elected the plenipotentiary representative of Sambo Federation in the capital Western District. It is the one million “city in the city” with its intensive life and sports events. June 27-29 in Poland on the Europe juniors sumo championship Igor Kurinnoy trainee get one gold, two silver and two bronze medals. This result showed by students of one coach and one school can be compared with results many other countries. Congratulations.
Outstanding Japanese and Soviet Judo grandmasters came together in “Sambo-70” club on May 10-11, 2008 to hold the joint clinics devoted to the studies of top fighting techniques. During these two days the stars of the World Judo appeared on tatami of the well-known school – repeated World and Olympic champions Yasuhiro Yamashita, Shojo Fuji, Nicholai Solodukhin, Sergei Novikov and many others. The clinics arranged by the Russian Judo Federation will undoubtedly serve the further development of sports in both countries and strengthening of friendship among the athletes. Japanese fighters were pleased to get as a gift Igor Kurinnoy’s complete edition of his book “Sambo for Professionals”.

7th May 2008 Igor kurinnoy was awarded from Moscow Philharmonic artists with the “Orekhov medal”, "For the outstanding merits and great personal contribution to the development and propaganda of the folk music and Russian guitar art". It was light moment of the big concert for veterans of the Grate War organized by Igor in the “Borec” sport school. Congratulations with the Victory Day!!!
12 April, 2008. All elite of the European and World Sumo was collected at the Berlin international tournament held in the capital of Germany. Trainee of Igor Kurinnoy Pavel Babuyk became 5-6 on the pedestal. His excellent techniques and will for victory was loved by German spectators and Pavel became favorite for public. His opponents was much bigger and bulky but few nice victories allow to Pavel come in to little final. It was grate day for fighter and his coach.
On March 24, 2008. As a real fighter Igor Kurinnoy traditionally marked his 36-th birthday on the mat surrounded with his trainees and at his school, the director of which he is. At the tournament "Experience Against Youth" Igor had to defend his titles in the presence of his trainees, coaches and friends fighting with "Boretz" best Sambo, Judo and Sumo athletes. A try at find victory way “Youth" change order of competition at this time. Tournament was held AFTER party (not BEFORE it as was usually). But it was wrong way. This time experience won with 5:0 score (as all last times). Igor collected all the medals and continue party in company of virtuoso guitar player Boris Kim and other his friends.
February 10, 2008 in the “Olimpiysky” sport complex masterclass of the Igor Kurinnoy for every desirous was conducted. Many sport lovers try have a fight with World Champion and with prize winners of the “Borec Challenge” sumo tournament which was held in this hall early. It was great celebration and nice sport day.
On February 4, 2008 the training camp under Igor Kurinnoy guidance for the Moscow Sumo selected team on the South China Sea coast was completed. During their staying in the camp, in addition to work-outs and restoration procedures, the testing of physical preparation in climate and time differences was conducted. Now all sumo players come back to Moscow and continue practice in the clubs. We do hope that the training camp organized by the Moscow Sumo Federation will serve the further development of our wrestlers' skills.

On August 8, 2007, by request of the American TV channel "History Channel" the shooting of one hour documentary was conducted in Moscow. Igor Kurinnoy was invited as the film co-operator. The theme and scenario are not disclosed. It is planned to release the film in North America in December, 2007.

Olympic prize-winner in Freestyle wrestling Hungarian Bardozi, who was the European Sumo champion 2 years ago, mounted the highest step of the podium this time, Bulgarian Stilian Georgiev became the repeated silver medalist and Igor Kurinnoy came third to the pedestal. On March 22, 2007. As a real fighter Igor Kurinnoy marked his 35-th birthday on the mat surrounded with his trainees and at his school, the director of which he is. At the tournament "Experience Against Youth" Igor had to defend his titles in the presence of his trainees, coaches and friends fighting with "Boretz" best Sambo, Judo and Sumo athletes. This time experience won with 5:0 score (as all last times). Igor collected all the medals.
On March 11, 2007. The Moscow Sumo Championship was held in capital of Russia. The strongest Sumo players came to vie for its prizes. Igor Kurinnoy won title of absolute Moscow champion as athlete and title of the best Moscow coach. His trainees won most prizes in all weight categories. Congratulations!

On March 2, 2007. First session of the Moscow Sumo Federation after Igor Kurinnoy was elected as President was completed in the one of the famous Moscow sport bar on Novy Arbat street. Most important directions of Sumo development was elaborated and declarated. “Borec Challenges” tournament bouts was showed on the big screen for every comers.
On February 04, 2007 at the last summary election meeting of the Moscow Sumo Federation Igor Kurinnoy was unanimously elected President of the Federation. The same day Sumo Grand Prix “Borec Challenges” was held in Moscow with the greatest European sumotori participating. The Tournament has become an outstanding event in the sports life of the capital and aroused the keen interest not only in Russia but also far beyond the country. On November 29, 2006 rassian national sumo team was decorated with the medals "For the Services to the Country”, for the world sumo championship victory in Japan this year. Presentation took place at one of the Central Moscow concert hall. Congratulations!!!
On November 25, 2006 the European Judo Championship for athletes under 23 years old was held in Moscow. The strongest Judo players of the Continent came to vie for its prizes. Igor Kurinnoy trainee Arina Aleksandrova got the gold medal in 57 kg weight category. Congratulations!
On Oktober 16, 2006 at the XIV Sumo World Championship in Japan Igor won the bronze medal. He won five fights against athletes from China, Malaisya, Ireland, Mongolia and Brazil and lose to Vitaliy Tihenko from Ukrain only. Congratulation!
On October 9, 2006. President of the International Olympic Committee Jaques Rogge, during his visit to Moscow to meet the Russian President Vladimir Putin, attended the Sambo demonstration display at Krilatsky Sports complex. The short but very spectacular program, that caused a stormy reaction of spectators, was prepared by Igor Kurinnoy. After the demonstration Jaques Rogge communicated with participants of the performance and was presented the disc “Sambo for Professionals”. We do hope that this work will contribute to the Sambo further development in the world.
On September 2, 2006. The European Sumo Championship was held in Germany. The strongest Sumo players from 15 countries of the Continent came to vie for its prizes. Igor Kurinnoy won the second place thus confirming his membership in the World Championships in Jupan (Osaka, October 2006). His trainee, Nelli Vorobieva, has become the twice Gold medallist among women in 65 kg weight category. On August 22, 2006. The last stage of preparation for the European Sumo championship to be held in Germany in September, 2006 has been completed. The camp devoted to the improvement of the functional stamina and special physical training went according to the plan. The final part of the work-outs will be held in the Podolsk Olympic Centre is ahead. On June 12, 2006. Today the team of the professional Judo club “Sambo-70” returned home after participating in the European Champions Cup. Our team scored three victories and lost only one point to the French club “Orleans” which in its turn lost to the German “Abensberg” that reached the finals of four. The fight of our young boys from one of the Moscow clubs against the strongest Judo players from the whole Europe was deserving of praise. We have acquired the main advantage – the experience that will become the base of our future victories. That was the opinion of all specialists who watched intense combats, Igor Kurinnoy, the playing coach of “Sambo-70” team, was one of them.

Moscow Top 10 leading sports school list was made by the results of the last year. “Borec” took the place in this rank between 200 other schools and became one of the 10 best Moscow sports schools in this year. On April 8-9, 2006 Igor took the 1st place at the XXXI traditional tournament devoted to the Astronaut Day and centenary of Anatoliy Kharlampiev and thus has become six times winners at this Tournament. The tournament was held at the Moscow Engineering - Physical Institute where Sambo is being developed for over 50 years and many well-known athletes were trained there. By participation in the given competition Igor payed tribute to that outstanding educational institution and its Sambo club.

On 26 February, 2006. At the last National Sumo championship that has been recently held in Moscow Igor Kurinnoy won the silver medal and the pass to the European championship that will take place in London in September, 2006. At the Opening ceremony Igor was solemnly presented with the certificate and the badge of the Merited Coach of Russia for the long-term preparation of top class athletes. His trainee Marina Dvoretzkaya was given the rank of the Merited Master of Sports. It was pleasantly to note that many young athletes from “Boretz” school made their appearance at the championship and went into action against the elite of the National Sumo. We do hope to hear the names of new great champions in a couple of years.

On 27 November, 2005 the new Igor Kurinnoy project - the series of Sumo professional tournaments "Boretz Challenges" - has made its start. The third tournament of the series "Autumn 2005" was held with the house full. Stars of the National Sumo took part in the competitions. Online-translation broke all records of attendance Twice world champion Ayas Mongush (height 180 cm, weight 126 kg) and the strongman from Kolomna Antonov (height 194 cm, weight 194 kg) met in the finals. At the tournament "Experience Against Youth" Igor had to defend his titles in the presence of his trainees, coaches and friends fighting with "Boretz" best Sambo, Judo and Sumo athletes. All the cream of the Russian Sambo -National, European and World champions of different years - gathered at the Team Cup of Russia among Federal Regions that ended on February 12, 2005 at the "Wings of Soviets" Sports Palace. Igor defended the honor of our Capital in 90 kg weight category. December 18, 2004. Igor finished the outgoing year with the brilliant victory at the Sambo Moscow championship. He scored Total Victories in all the bouts and proved his doubtless superiority in 90 kg weight category. Some throws and holds in ground will be soon included in video section of competitive examples in “Sambo for Professionals”. We wish Igor successful preparation to the forthcoming Russian championship in the training camp that will be held this time in Antalia.
November 2004. Competitive Sumo season ended with the world championship in Germany.The European Sumo Union (ESU) published the rating list of the Old World leading athletes. For the second time in the row Igor Kurinnoy took a lead in the list of the best sumotori-lightweights in Europe with 59,5 points that is 10,5 points bigger than last year. He considerably increased the brake from his main opponents Stiliyan Georgiev from Bulgaria, the German Peer Schmidt-Duvinger and Janos Kismoni from Hungary. Besides, in Top-10 rating – absolute list of the 10 best European sumotori – Igor took the 4th place giving way only to Robert Paczkov (Poland, 66,37 points), Torsten Scheibler (Germany, 65,43 points) and David Tzalagov (Russia, 60,55 points) World and European champions in the Open weight category. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
October 16, 2004. Only one step separated captain of Russian national team Igor Kurinnoy from the gold medal at 2004 World Sumo championship, finished in Germany. He has confidently defeated the opponents from Tadjikistan, Great Britain, Georgia, Bulgaria and Thailand and according to the draw had to meet the current champion from Brazil Claudio Haruo Ikemori who cut off his way to the finals at the last World championship. Igor was dominating during the whole bout and applied the hold that could have been the victorious one. But the referee considered the move of Igor's hand in the throw as the touch of the dohyo and awarded the victory to the Brazilian. As a result, only the bronze medal of the World Sumo championship was added to our legendary athlete "money-box". You can find the video fragment of this controversial point right here. On September 18, 2004 at the III Sumo Japan Ambassador Cup in Ukrain Igor won the small Cup and silver medal. His trainee, Marina Dvoretzkaya, won the gold medal in the 80 kg weight category and bronze in open category. Nelli Vorobieva won silver in 65 kg weight category. Congratulation!

On April 28-29, 2004 Sambo clinic for coaches was held in the city of Veliki Luki at the grounds of the Academy of Physical Education and Sports. It was arranged by the Pskov region Sambo federation and by the Academy mentioned above. Igor Kurinnoy made several reports for teachers and students as well as for coaches of the Pskov region who came to the clinic. He spoke of the issues concerning provision of the wrestlers training process, the ways of solving certain problems in the work coaches and methods to increase the efficiency of their activity. The issues of methodology concerning the teaching of wrestling techniques for the kids in primary groups were considered in the practical part of the clinic, with Sambo schools sharing their experience. In participants opinion, the clinic was held at a good organizational level and we do hope it will be useful in their future work.
On April 17-18 2004, Igor Kurinnoy was elected a member of the Russian Sumo Federation Presidium at the Sumo Conference. At the VII Sumo Nationals that took place at the same time in Moscow Igor won the bronze medal. His trainee, Marina Dvoretzkaya, won the gold medal in the 80 kg weight category and the Champion of Russia title. In addition, the "Boretz" women team, that was trained by Igor, became the Russian Champion in team scoring. CONGRATULATIONS !
On April 03 2004, in the Sports school "Boretz" the "Kurinnoy Cup - 2004" in Sambo was held. In tough fight the finalists were defined - "Boretz" and "Piter" teams. Spectators enjoyed the final bouts, very spectacular and without compromise. As a result the Cup was won by the athletes from "Piter" team from St.Petersburg and thus introduced its name in the history of "Kurinnoy Cup" tournaments. 14.03.2004 The victory at the election to the Municipal administration of "Novo - Peredelkino" region. Igor won in his electoral district, confidently taking the lead over his main competitors. Participation in Municipality, hopefully, will let us to further develop and perfect sports infrastructure of the district and attract greater number of children and youth to practicing sports and physical training.
24.02.2004 Moscow team became 3-rd on the Sambo Russian Cup between regions teams. Igor Kurinnoy take part in this competition for Moscow team in 90 kg category (he win all fights). First place is Volga region team, 2-nd - South region team.
06.02.2004 ESU Top 40 leading athletes list was made by the results of the last years. Igor Kurinnoy took the 1rd place in European rank having scored 49 points and became the best European light-weight sumotori in this year. 12.12.2003 By the Decrree of the Russian Academy of Defence Security, Law and Order, issued on October 5, 2003, Igor kurinnoy was awarded with the Peter the Great Order, Second Class, "For the outstanding merits and great personal contribution to the development and strengthening of the Russian state". Congratulations!!!
8.11.2003 By President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin Decree from September 21,2003 Igor Kurinnoy was decorated with the Order "For the Services to the Country, Second Class" for the long-term, fruitful work in sports. Presentation took place at the Opening Ceremony of the XXVII th World Sambo Championship in St. Petersburg on November 8, 2003. The Order was awarded by the Chairman of the State Committee on Physical Education and Sports Viacheslav Fetisov.
12.10.2003 The book "Great ( Glorious ) Russia. The Names." has been recently published. About 20.000 people that glorified Russia and considerably influenced its millenium history were named in the pages of the book. Igor Kurinnoy Sr. and Igor Kurinnoy Jr. were honoured to be mentioned among these names. The given encyclopaedia reference book was issued by the Academy of Security, Defence and Law and Order of Russia, it has a leather cover and the edition is limited.

On July 10, 2003 at the expanded Presidium meeting of the Academy for Security problems,Defense and Law in Russia devoted to the Independence Day, Igor Kurinnoy was named the Laureate of Mikhail Lomonosov Premium in the field of science and education and awarded with Diploma and the Golden badge for the outstanding contribution to the young generation upbringing and the work for the benefit of the Russian state.
Igor Kurinnoy took the 3rd place at the National Sumo Championship that was held in Moscow on May 31 - June 1, 2003. "Boretz" school trainees displayed high skills and won the gold medal in women's division ( Marina Dvoretzkaya, up to 80 kg ), gold medal in junior division ( Sergei Tziklauri, up to 115 kg ), and silver medal in youth division (Vladimir Nagnibetov, up to 80 kg ). Our women took the 3rd place in the team competitions !!! Congratulations from the bottom of our hearts to the athletes and their coaches Igor Kurinnoy and Andrey Osadchinsky !
On May 2 - 3, 2003 the European Sambo Championships was held in the city of Albena, Bulgaria. Athletes from 18 countries, juniors, youth and seniors, both men and women, were vying for the medals. The competitions were very spectacular and impressive, showed the increased skills of Sambo players and Sambo popularity in Europe. Bouts were tough and the victories were won in stiff fight. Igor Kurinnoy's trainee, Marina Dvoretzkaya, in 80 kg weight category confidently won all preliminary bouts, reached the finals, gained a really brilliant victory over the athlete from Geogrgia by a technically perfect Leg Lock ( Painful Hold ) and became European Champion! CONGRATULATIONS !!!
On April 12, 2003 Igor took the 1st place at the traditional tournament devoted to the Astronaut Day and centenary of academician I.Kurchatov and thus has become one of 3 five times winners at this Tournament for all its 35 years history. The tournament was held at the Moscow Engineering - Physical Institute where Sambo is being developed for over 50 years and many well-known athletes were trained there. By participation in the given competition Igor payed tribute to that outstanding educational institution and its Sambo club.
On March 29 2003, in the Sports school "Boretz" the "Kurinnoy Cup - 2003" in Sambo was held. For the first time ever the "Sambo-70" picked team from Moscow won the Cup. 12 teams from St.Petersburg, Aleksin, Tula, Smolensk, Torzhok, Voskresensk, Moscow and Moscow region took part in the competitions. In tough fight the finalists were defined - "Boretz" and Sambo-70. Spectators enjoyed the final bouts, very spectacular and without compromise. As a result the Cup was won by the athletes from "Sambo-70" and thus introduced its name in the history of "Kurinnoy Cup" tournaments. For the details look here...
On March 23 2003, Igor Kurinnoy took the first place at the 5-th All-Russian Tournament devoted to the memory of Genrikh Schultz having won 4 Total victories out of 5. After the end of the competitions the Organizing Committee awarded Igor with a special prize " For Longevity in Sports" - exclusive bronze figurine of two fighters.
06.02.2003 ESU Top 10 leading athletes list was made by the results of the last 2 years. Igor Kurinnoy took the 3rd place having scored 52 points,Janos Kismoni (Hungary ) was the second with 52,25 points and Peer Scmidt-Duwinger ( Germany) was placed first with 59,75 points. By the results of the year 2002 Igor Kurinnoy confidently took the first place leaving his opponents far behind and became the best European light-weight sumotori. Two Igor's trainees, Marina Dvoretzkaya and Nelli Vorobieva,were among the 30 best sumotori girls. CONGRATULATIONS !!!
On December 25, 2002 by the decision of the Higher attestation - qualification committee of the Russian Federation Igor Kurinnoy was conferred the degree of Candidate of Science, Ped (Doctor of Philosophy in World Information Distributed University). His scientific work "Application of Modern Information Technologies to Increase the Effectiveness of Fighters Training" was highly estimated by specialists. The theme in question will be further developed and realized in a number of new computer programs such as " Athletics-2" and "Sambo for Professionals-2". Candidate of science diploma was presented to Igor by academicians: President of the Academy of Security, Defense and Law and Order problems V.Shevchenko and Social Labour Hero, Doctor of science E. Sheveliov.
30.11.2002 " To Igor Kurinnoy " Medal box " the bronze medal won at the Sumo Worlds was added. Igor reached the semi-finals after he gained victories over the athletes from Hong Kong,Czechia and Germany. He lost to the athlete from Brazil and it looked like the road to the finals was closed but the victory over Kimura Cho Hei from Japan,2001 World champion, let Igor win the 3rd place in 85 kg weight category. His trainee, Marina Dvoretzkaya, 2002 European champion,didn't let her coach down - she also won the bronze medal in 80 kg weight category. CONGRATULATIONS !
27.11.2002 Training camp of the Russian National Sumo team in the Olympic Centre in Podolsk near Moscow has been completed. The object of the camp was the final stage of preparation for the 2002 Sumo World championship. The team is leaving for Poland to take part in it. At the same time the National Sambo team goes to the Worlds in Panama. We wish our athletes good luck on world mats !
06.10.2002 Brilliant victory at the European Sumo Championships ! It was the most representative Championships in the whole history of the European Sumo Union - the strongest Sumo players from 20 countries. In addition to the gold medal and the Champion's title in the weight category up to 85 kg IGOR KURINNOY was awarded with the title of the best athlete at the 2002 European Sumo Championships and the prize - the Cup - was presented to him by President of ESU Mr.Gunter Romenath. Igor's trainee, Marina Dvoretzkaya,won the gold medal in the women's weight category up to 80 kg. CONGRATULATIONS !!! Wish you every success at the World Championships in December!
07.09.2002 By the order of the Russian State Sports Committee public coach of "BORETZ" school ,and Igor's father, Igor Ivanovich Kurinnoy was awarded with the title " Merited coach of Russia in Sambo" as a result of his active coaching in this sport for several decades. Igor Kurinnoy Sr.has trained many outstanding athletes and made a valuable contribution to Sambo development . CONGRATULATIONS!
2.09.2002 The beginning of a new school year was marked by traditional celebrations arranged in "BORETZ" every year. Chairman of the Russian State Committee on Physical Education and Sports,twice Olympic and 8 times World champion in ice-hockey Viacheslav Fetisov visited the school on that day. Igor Kurinnoy and Viacheslav Fetisov exchanged their works :"Sambo for Professionals" disk and the book"Overtime.My 20-th Century".
July 27,2002. The first preparation stage for the European Sumo Championship to be held in September 2002 has been completed. After two weeks in Olympic training camp Igor took part in the International "A"class Sumo Tournament in Budapest,Hungary, with athletes from 13 countries participating. In the final bout Igor Kurinnoy defeated 2000 World champion from Germany Peter Schmidt, won the 1st place and fulfilled the ratings of International class Master of Sports in Sumo.
June 25 - July 5,2002. The 10 days International clinics in Sambo and Judo with Judo players from USA participation were successfully held in "Boretz" sports school, Sambo-70 club and the State Academy of Physical Education and Sports. May 29, 2002. Gold medal at the Sumo Championship of Russia. Igor won this title 3 times and thus got the right to participate in the European ( September 20 ) and World ( December 15 ) Championships in 2002. Besides, two trainees of "Boretz" Sports school and Igor's personal trainee,Marina Dvoretzkaya,are taking part in Junior European Championship to be held in Holland in June.
May 26,2002. Confident victory at the Team World Cup in the National line up in the city of Oral ( Kazakhstan ). Igor won all the bouts ahead of time by Total victories and became World Cup Six Time Winner.
April 13 - 14 2002. Won the 1 st place at the 27 th National Tournament " Space Conquerers Prizes" traditionally held in Moscow by the Engineering - Physics University. The Tournament was devoted to the 60 th anniversary of the University and the 50 th one - to Sambo practicing there.
April 12, 2002. Was elected Professor of the Academy of Security Problems,Defence and Law and Order.
March 23,2002. International "A" Class Sambo Tournament for the prizes of State Duma deputy, police general-major and Master of Sports of International Aslambek Aslakhanov. Athletes from 12 countries took part in the competitions. Igor won the first place having defeated the fighters from France, Belarus, Mongolia, USA and 2000 World champion Sergei Lopovok in the finals.

March 3 , 2002. The Sambo Cup of the 3 times World champion Igor Kurinnoy for the boys of 1988-1987 year of birth was held in “Boretz”sports school and attracted many Sambo lovers. The victory went to Torzhok city picked team. The competitions were conducted at the high organizational level and starting with the next year they will be included into the calendar of Youth Tournaments thus assuming the International status.
January 27,2002. President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin visited Sambo-70 club and watched the work-out of its picked team. President inspected the school gyms,talked to schoolchildren and athletes and noted that the atmosphere of fighting arts school is very close and dear to him.We do hope that this visit will give a powerful incentive to the development of children's sport in our country.
January 26,2002. Took part in the seeing-off the Russian national team to the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City (USA).The great ceremony was held on the Poklonnaya hill in Moscow.The leaders of the National Olympic and State Sports Committees,prominent public figures and sponsors were present.We wish our Olympians every luck and much "gold " !
December 9,2001 Moscow Sambo championship in "Brateevo" sports complex. Many sports specialists,athletes and guests were present. Alexander Goncharov,President of the Moscow Sambo Federation was awarding the best Sambo players of Russia. Igor Kurinnoy was named an outstanding athlete.The company "Russian Weapons" presented him the hand-made knife of damask steel ,the analogous copy of which is in the Kremlin Armoury.
December 4,2001 Sure victory at the Sambo Cup of Russia in the city of Perm in 90 kg weight category.Igor won the final bout by the Total throw.
November 19,2001 By Commander-in Chief of the Moscow region order #169 of 19.11.01 captain I.I.Kurinnoy was given the rank of major ahead of time. Congratulations !
October 19, 2001 - World Championship in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. Impressive victory in 90 kg weight category. The most strenuous bouts in quarter finals against Bamboo-Suren, Mongolian and Asia champion, participant of Sidney Olympic Games (Igor won by the Teglock ) and in the finals against Mavlud Miraliev from Azerbaijan, silver medallist of the last World Championship (won on points 3:0).
Clinics in USA - from June 14th to June 28th in 5 cities, 4 States: Edwardsville and Chicago (Illinois), St.Louis (Missouri), Ames (Iowa) and Found du Lac (Wisconsin). All in All 11 clinics.
On June 12,2001 at the World Cup in Yugoslavia gained the victory in both individual and team scoring thus became 5 times World Cup Winner.
May 25, 2001 - meet of professional clubs PSG, France versus "Sambo-70", Russia in 1/8 finals of the Judo European champions Cup. Igor's opponent was the famous French judo player A. Dumonfacon, bronze medallist of the Sidney Olympic, 2001 World Champion in Munich. "Sambo-70" team won the meet with the score 9:7.
